Talking to microbs, when microbiology meets sociology

On October 3rd, 2025, the Academy of Sciences hosted the successful interdisciplinary seminar, “Talking to microbes: About resistance to antibiotics across the natural and social sciences.” This vital event brought together experts from both scientific and social fields to explore the complex challenge of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).

Presentations covered a wide spectrum, ranging from in-depth looks at integrated AMR research and clinical practices like antibiotic stewardship to a fascinating discussion on the cultural practices surrounding antibiotic use and prescription. The seminar was a collaborative effort, co-organized by the Strategy AV21 programme and the INTER MICRO project, in cooperation with the Institute of Sociology CAS and the Czech Microbiome Society of the CMS JEP.

Thank you to all the speakers and attendees for a productive and illuminating day.
